100% of the proceeds for the purchase of The "Rise Above" Patch or Sticker will go to the Capital Area United Way in their efforts to help those affected by The Great Flood of 2016 in Louisiana.

Four weeks ago, south Louisiana changed. The Great Flood of 2016 may be off the front pages and nowhere near the nightly news anymore, but its effects are still echoing loudly through Wonder South’s community. And despite rumors to the contrary, many homes and businesses remain under water, even as tens of thousands of people strive to recover from this natural disaster.

Nominated by a good friend of WS who was in the trenches of recovery efforts, we chose Natalie Binford as the first recipient of a RISE ABOVE patch. Despite a recent medical setback which has sidelined her own business, Natalie (photographed Sept 13 in front of a still-swamped home hear where she was raised) worked tirelessly for three weeks straight not only delivering food and supplies to dozens of people in Ascension Parish, she took orders as well, bringing hurting people exactly what they needed while inspiring hundreds of others to help their neighbors just the same through her #lafloodlove @lafloodlove initiative. In one day alone, Natalie organized and distributed a 30-foot truck of supplies and food to flood victims. And she continues to use her influence to organize new fundraising initiatives. “These are my people, and it’s not over,” she says.

At WS, we wanted to not only shine a spotlight on recovery efforts and fundraising initiatives—which have now virtually ceased—but also create a simple way for those who lived through this experience to show appreciation and love for someone else who helped them or helped others in extraordinary ways. So we created the RISE ABOVE patch. Inspired by the old folk phrase “Lord willing and the creek don’t rise,” we say, “EVEN IF THE CREEK RISE”…Even if the creek rise, we in the Wonder will survive and help others to do the same. For a $10 patch or $5 sticker (proceeds benefit the Capital Area United Way’s Flood Recovery), you can purchase a patch or sticker or both to give to a deserving person.

Order one for someone special today. Post a photo of the person you give the patch to and tag the photo with #WonderSouth and #EvenIfTheCreekRise to share their story!
